This will be a full-time 100% position in the Department of Neurosurgery in the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Under the supervision of Dr. Mayumi Prins and Dr Neil Harris, both are Principal Investigators in the Department of Neurosurgery at UCLA.
This SRA will be responsible maintaining a multi-Pl lab including administration, records and workspace, as well as standard laboratory protocols including immuno-histology as well as basic protein and RNA analysis. The applicant will also be expected to work independently after training on Pl-led research including: rodent surgeries, studies utilizing radioisotopes, single cell RNA sequencing, brain tissue sectioning, epifluroescent and lightsheet microscopy, and rodent behavioral tasks. Experience with one or more of these research areas is desirable. The applicant should be comfortable with running at least basic statistical analysis and ideally have R, MaUab or Python coding experience. The applicant will be expected to follow all laboratory safety practices and be able to work collaboratively with others. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A master’s or Ph.D. in neuroscience, cognitive science, computational biology, or a related field is preferred, along with several years of prior laboratory experience.
Hourly salary range: 30.12 – 35.92
Required:
B.S. in Neuroscience or equivalent course work and experience
Professional research or analytical experience
Ability to exercise a high degree of sensitivity, empathy, compassion, and professionalism with patients, healthcare professionals, and research collaborators
Knowledge of neurophysiology, cognitive neuroscience, and psychology
Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and nights for patient data collection
Ability to independently manage different research experiments at once
Knowledge of computers and software programs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Access
Preferred:
Ability to use various computer programs for data acquisition and analysis, such as MATLAB and Python, and authoring manuscripts and for preparation of posters and presentations
