We’re seeking a passionate Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team at the Children’s Health Center in Westwood, a primary and specialty care clinic. Here, every day is an opportunity to make a difference and grow your skills in a fast-paced environment. You’ll work closely with expert physicians, residents, and fellows in a variety of fields. Responsibilities, but are not limited to:
- Assist in minor procedures
- Administer medication and vaccines
- Perform EKGs
- Perform infection prevention duties
- Prepare reports for physician review
- Assist with follow up for referrals to specialists
- Certificate or Diploma as a Medical Assistant as follows:
- (a) Documentation of completing of a medical assistant program from a medical assistant school that is accredited by ASSCS, ACCET, CAAHEP or ABHES or
- (b) Documentation of national certification for medical assistant issued by CMA, NCCT or AMT or
- (c) Documentation of completing a medical assistant program and demonstrated completion of no less than 10 clock hours of training in administering injections and performing skin tests; 10 hours of training in venipuncture and skin puncture for the purpose of withdrawing blood; at least 10 of each intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections and 10 skin tests, and/or at least 10 venipuncture and 10 skin punctures; 10 hours of training in administering medical by inhalation.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Knowledge of normal and abnormal symptomatology and life threatening medical problems
- Ability to push, pull or carry 30 lbs or more
- Ability to obtain accurate vital signs and drug refills
- Ability to assist in medical emergencies and office procedures.
- Ability to skillfully administer oral, IM and subcutaneous medications
- Skill to accurately perform a 12-lead EKG
- Knowledge and ability to set up and assist physician with any procedures such as, but not limited to audiometry, spirometry, O2 saturation levels, skin tag and mole removals, ear lavage, colposcopies, flexible sigmoidscopies.
- Ability to order medical and clinical supplies and maintain adequate inventory.
- Ability to be flexible in working both back and front office to facilitate smooth workflow
- Ability to be flexible in working location, to float to different offices and therefore travel to various locations.
- Ability to perform the functions of patient encounters registration and appointment, scheduling, using a computerized system.
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing assignments and minimizing duplication of effort
- Ability to work effectively under a rotating work assignment system.
- Expertise, skills, and knowledge in working with pediatric patients.
- Knowledge of child safety measures
- Working knowledge of Medi-Cal, CCS, HMO’s, PPO’s, third party payors, etc., authorizations and eligibility requirements and regulations Ability to enter the correct insurance information into the Medical Center’s computer system and assign accurate payor class codes
- English/Spanish bilingual
