The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, is seeking a Lead Fund Manager to oversee and manage the full lifecycle of designated research and operational funds. This role ensures financial activity remains compliant with university policies and sponsor requirements while supporting accounts from inception through closeout.
The Lead Fund Manager partners closely with principal investigators and research faculty to provide guidance on budgeting, allowable expenditures, and financial planning. Responsibilities include processing and reviewing financial transactions such as fund and cost transfers, no-cost extensions, and spending approvals; reconciling monthly ledgers; preparing budgets, financial reports, and projections using university financial systems; and reviewing purchasing and payment documentation. The role also identifies and resolves accounting issues to ensure accurate reporting and responsible stewardship of funds in support of the division’s research mission.
Annual range: $86.400-$184,800
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of extensive research administration experience.
- 1-3 years of complex research administration portfolio.
- Advanced ability to set priorities and complete ongoing tasks with competing deadlines, with frequent interruptions, to meet programmatic and financial needs.
- Exceptional organizational skills to create and maintain administrative and financial files effectively.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe and Microsoft suite software, especially Excel.
- Strong organization skills, ability to prioritize job functions, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously with multiple proposal submission systems.
- Experience preparing, managing, and projecting budgets.
- Mathematical skills for the preparation of complex calculations and forecasts and to identify and resolve complicated financial scenarios.
- In-depth knowledge of and experience working with a variety of external sponsors, federal and state sponsors, private foundations, industry sponsors, etc.
- In-depth knowledge of various research administration policies and procedures, and contract and grant funding agency guidelines.
- Experience with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, and cooperative agreements.
- Ability to interpret policy for others.
- Advanced knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques
- Full knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation, Code of Federal Regulations, sponsor specific policies, intellectual property policy, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, application of indirect cost rates and other complex concepts in research administration.
- Experience with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, and cooperative agreements.
- Ability to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
