Working within the framework of the philosophy and objectives set forth by the Director of the Transplant Programs, the Nurse Manager is accountable for the supervision, monitoring and evaluation of the transplant program staff. This position requires an advanced level of expertise and overall understanding of organ transplantation. Utilizing a wide range of alternatives in problem solving situations, demonstrates a high degree of professional competence and skill. Responsibility involves coordination of interdisciplinary medical care delivery system under the direction of the Medical Director; assessment of appropriate medical intervention for effective use of resources and quality assurance. Additional responsibilities include assessing and monitoring medical case management protocols to maintain effective long-term patient management, development of educational materials and programs for patients, nursing staff and physicians. Development of clinical protocols, and policy and procedures. Community education and public relations. Transplant donor/recipient coordination and liaison function with organ procurement agencies.
Salary range: $144,400.00 – $341,800.00 (annually)
- Current California nursing license; graduate from an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters’ degree highly preferred or equivalent nursing education and minimum 6 years clinical transplant coordinator experience. (Required)
- Demonstrated by previous experience as a transplant coordinator (at least 5 years): 1) an ability to case manage all aspects of a transplant patient’s medical care from initial evaluation to post transplant follow-up; 2) apply a broad understanding and knowledge of organ transplantation, including immunology, immunosuppression, rejection and other complications of transplantation, drug toxicity and graft failure. (Required)
- Certification in area of specialty; Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator—CCTC. (Required)
- Demonstrated by previous experience (at least 5 years): 1) Ability and experience to act as an effective teacher in a clinical setting. 2) Ability to interface effectively with patients and their families. 3) Ability to interface with Medical staff and Nursing staff. 4) Ability to teach about transplantation and medical management issues. (Required)
- An ability to apply a broad knowledge base to complex problem solving. (Required)
- Demonstrated by previous experience and accomplishment (at least 5 years), an ability to apply a broad knowledge base to act effectively to coordinate and assess patient care and act as a liaison with nursing staff, outside agencies, team physicians, referring physicians, patient and family. Ability to represent Medical Center in site visits and review by Managed Care and insurance groups. (Required)
- Excellent organizational skills, proficiency in meeting deadlines, ability to work independently and prioritize workload. Ability to manage numerous concurrent tasks in a high stress environment and deal with change. (Required)
- Ability to provide a leadership style that demonstrates the principles of time management, conflict resolution, problem-solving and delegation. (Required)
- Demonstrated by previous experience and accomplishment, an ability to supervise nursing case managers and provide leadership and training. (Required)
- Experience in managing under budgetary targets. (Preferred)
- Knowledge of labor relations. (Preferred)
