We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Groundskeeper to join our team at the UCLA West Valley Medical Center.
As a Groundskeeper, you will help preserve the beauty and safety of our grounds by:
- Performing daily maintenance and inspections of trees, plants, lawns, and hardscape areas.
- Irrigating, pruning, fertilizing, mowing, edging, trimming, and cultivating using various power and hand tools.
- Identifying and reporting plant pests and diseases to your supervisor.
- Keeping adjacent areas clean by sweeping, hosing off debris, and emptying trash containers.
- Safely operating and maintaining power and hand tools, vehicles, and equipment.
- Transporting materials, equipment, and personnel efficiently to and from job sites.
- Following established safety procedures, including regular inspections of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Supporting other related duties as assigned while adhering to all UCLA Health policies and standards.
Salary Range: $24.06-$31.72
- Broad knowledge in the identification and care of commonly used landscape plants and turf grass.
- Experience and working knowledge of proper methods in pruning shrubs, mowing/edging lawns, and cultivating plants.
- Ability to stand, sit, crawl, and walk for a long period of time; squat, kneel, climb, bend, and stoop repetitively.
- Ability to push, pull, lift, carry, and lower objects up to 50 lbs.; push, pull, lift, and lower objects weighing 80 lbs. with assistance.
- Ability to maintain and safely operate power driven equipment, e.g., mower, edger, trimmer, shears, generator, renovator, and aerifier, as well as various hand tools.
- Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
- Oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise, and grammatically correct information.
- Skill in reading standard English text to follow through on written orders and carry out assignments.
- Ability to write simple English text using correct grammar and spelling to complete reports, forms, and work orders that are accurate and easy to comprehend.
- Working knowledge of standard safe work practices.
- Ability to maintain good attendance.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and special events.
- Horticultural experience: Two years’ experience in the care and treatment of a wide variety of plant life, including ability to identify horticultural pests and diseases.
