At UCLA Health, excellence in patient care begins with excellence in our laboratories. We are seeking a Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialist to join our Blood Bank team at the Santa Monica Clinical Laboratory during the evening shift.
In this pivotal role, you will serve as a technical and operational leader, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency within the Blood Bank. You’ll work closely with our multidisciplinary teams to support patient care through expert oversight, mentorship, and innovation. Primary duties include:
• Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise for Blood Bank operations.
• Review test results, antibody identification (ABID) workups, and Blood Bank consults.
• Manage and monitor critical systems, including temperature monitoring and equipment maintenance.
• Lead training, huddles, and competency assessments for testing personnel.
• Validate new analyzers, instruments, middleware, and laboratory tests.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and regulatory documentation.
• Oversee CAP proficiency testing and prepare the department for accreditation inspections.
• Conduct internal Blood Bank audits and support continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Track and report laboratory metrics for regulatory and performance review.
• Manage inventory of reagents and blood products.
• Collaborate with the Santa Monica day-shift Sr. CLS Specialist, Ronald Reagan Blood Bank team, and local leadership.
• Evaluate workflows to enhance quality, productivity, and efficiency.
• Lead safety initiatives and occurrence management processes.
Salary Range: $60.71/hour – $78.17/hour
• Current, valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• A minimum of four years of clinical laboratory scientist experience in Blood Bank.
• Proven experience in training and lecturing.
• Experience writing procedures and reports.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Demonstrated experience in LIS interface validation, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Must pass the Ishihara Color Vision exam, i.e. visual acuity including color differentiation.
