Venice Family Clinic is seeking applications for an experienced and knowledgeable Chief Financial Officer to join its leadership team.
Venice Family Clinic is a leader in providing comprehensive, high-quality health care to people in need. The organization has more than 500 staff who serve 45,000 people with compassion, dignity, and respect across an area from the Santa Monica Mountains through the South Bay. Venice Family Clinic has an expanding network of clinic locations and Early Head Start centers throughout Los Angeles County, plus multiple mobile clinics and an extensive street medicine program to reach people experiencing homelessness.
Venice Family Clinic partners with leading doctors and health care facilities across Southern California, including UCLA Health and David Geffen School of Medicine, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, and Providence Saint John’s Health Center. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for overseeing accounting, financial, budgets, billing, grants administration, payroll and purchasing activities of our Los Angeles County based FQHC, which has an operating budget of over $100 million, 17 locations, and 570 staff members. This senior leadership role will be responsible for maintaining compliance with Venice Family Clinic and UCLA policies as well as Federal, State, County and City guidelines and regulations. The CFO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and Board Treasurer, and will work with other members of the Senior Management team to uphold the values and mission statement of the organization.
Key Responsibilities include:
Management of Accounts and Financial Reporting. Management of the day to day operations of the finance/accounting department, general ledger system, month end close, workflows and systems. Provides key financial reports and analysis for leadership, leads audits while ensuring strong internal controls and Board support, and serves as the lead staff liaison to the Board’s Audit Committee and the Board’s Finance Committee.
Revenue Cycle Management. Supervises the billing department and billing of third party payers, and ensures regulatory compliance. Monitors timely payments, supports revenue cycle improvements, and prepares the annual State Medi-Cal Managed Care Reconciliation Report and annual Medicare Cost reports.
Financial Planning & Analysis. Manages budgeting, long-term financial planning, Board reporting, and fundraising oversight, including financial tracking and cash handling.
Treasury and Cash Management. Leads treasury management, monitors cash flow & investments, handles financing and loan compliance, & oversees accounts payable controls.
Contracts and Grants Administration. Oversees, monitors and assists in the development of budgets for government and private grants, ensures compliance, oversees reporting and audits, and advises leadership on fund management. Develops workflow improvements to ensure the flow of data, reporting and compliance.
Payroll. Ensures accurate payroll, time tracking, hiring approvals, budget monitoring, and payroll allocation to grants.
Purchasing. Oversees purchasing and ensures that purchasing systems are devised to accommodate the growth and complexity of the organization.
Staff Supervision. Leads and mentors staff, supervises finance teams, and develops department training and onboarding programs.
Special Projects. Collaborates on capital campaign finances, ensures effective billing systems, and leads complex payer rate increase efforts and related audits.
The University of California, Los Angeles is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $140,200.00 – $331,800.00 Annual.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business required; California CPA license and/or MBA highly preferred.
- Minimum of ten years of executive level work experience in the management of fiscal/business operations.
- Minimum of five years of experience in the supervision and development of staff; experience managing fiscal staff.
- Minimum of five years of experience working with community health centers, FQHCs and/or nonprofits.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), audit, and monthly close.
- Expertise with complex funding and regulatory models.
- Proficient in ERP & EMR systems: preferably Sage, Epic.
- Ability to adapt, integrate, and translate data from new systems
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to make fiscal projections based upon historical trends, anticipated changes and/or goals.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and effective interpersonal skills with the ability to simplify and communicate complex financial data to a broad audience.
- Skill in budgeting and financial planning.
- Team-oriented, collaborative and self-motivated.
