- Knowledge of laboratory management issues, including general knowledge of research requirements and a minimum of three years of experience of laboratory management in a University or Hospital setting.
- Ability to maintain all certifications required by UCLA EH+S for working in a BSL2+ facility, with human cells and tissues, such as Bloodborne Pathogens, Medical Waste, Biological Safety Cabinets,
- Ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of people (research faculty, lab personnel, facilities personnel, craftspeople, etc.) to effect optimal results in solving laboratory problems.
- Demonstrated skill in writing concise logical and grammatically correct reports, requests, etc., and skill in communicating effectively both in writing and orally.
- Ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date equipment inventory.
- Analytical ability to define problems accurately, identify solutions, formulate logical and objective conclusions, recognize alternatives and their implications and to take necessary and appropriate action.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize tasks and assignments, establishing their relative importance to assure optimal productivity.
- Demonstrated proficiency with basic office functions (typing/word processing, alpha-numeric filing, faxing, calculating totals, computing tax, photocopying, etc.).
- Ability to move heavy objects (up to 50lbs) such as LN2/CO2 tanks with appropriate training
- Ability to exercise judgement, discretion and flexibility in performance of assignments to meet unit objectives.
- Ability to function as a member of a team or to act independently as required by circumstances.
- Ability to work off hours, weekends and holidays, if needed.
- Ability to be creative in identifying and proposing solutions to address various issues and problems.
- Knowledgeable about requirements for GMP laboratory operations, monitoring, documentation and other relevant SOPs.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of campus purchasing and equipment management policies and procedures.
