- Receive, store, and rotate food and supplies using FIFO procedures while maintaining proper labeling and storage conditions.
- Inspect incoming supplies for quality, report shortages, and distribute requisitioned items to appropriate units.
- Monitor equipment temperatures, follow food safety protocols, and maintain hygiene and sanitation standards.
- Assist with inventory management, support department operations, and collaborate professionally with team members.
- Knowledge of JCAHO and departmental rules and procedures of sanitation and safety as applied to kitchens, food storage and supplies.
- Ability to speak on a one-to-one basis using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to communicate effectively with vendors, ordering units and management.
- Skill in using flat carts, 2-wheel dollies, scales.
- Skill in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers without a calculator to fill orders, take physical counts of inventories, and verify quantities listed on invoices were received.
- Skill in using Basic English words and phrases to make corrections on receiving documents and requisitions, and reporting and recording vendor shortages or discrepancies.
- Ability to read food and refrigeration thermometers to verify appropriate food and storage temperatures.
- Ability to communicate clearly by telephone to make inquiries and place orders with vendors as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and numerous ordering units and vendors.
- Ability to frequently lift 75 pounds, push or pull a cart with 1500 pound load, bend to reach items stored on low shelves, reach for items stored above shoulder level, and climb a ladder to store, rotate and issue food supplies.
- Skill in adapting to frequent changes in workload.
- Ability to work in an environment with extreme variations of temperature with appropriate protective clothing.
- Skill in working independently and identifying potentially more effective methods of work operation.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to work in a non-smoking environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly by telephone to place orders with vendors.
