The UCLA Department of Surgery Well-being Instructor will be embedded in the Department of Surgery to lead in creation of Departmental well-being offerings including but not limited to mindfulness techniques and individualized practices. First and foremost, the role and goal of this position is to enhance and support the well-being, mental health, professional and personal contentment, and retention of faculty. The Well-Being Instructor will create trusted, supportive relationships with faculty by leading individual, accessible, personalized mindfulness mentoring/coaching sessions. In addition, this role will collaborate, consult with, and contribute to the establishment, growth, and evolution of the UCLA Center for Surgeon Well-Being.
Pay Range: $66,560.00 – $137,600.00 annually.
Required:
5+ years teaching Mindfulness in comparable setting.
History of work in 1:1 setting, Mindfulness Mentor, Coach or equivalent position.
Demonstrated experience in health/corporate setting at executive or leadership level.
Demonstrated experience working in a hospital, ideally with surgeons or in a Department of Surgery.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a personal mindfulness or well-being practice.
Bachelor’s degree in field such as psychology, neuroscience or other related field.
Certification as Mindfulness Teacher with internationally recognized training program.
Certification as Mindfulness Mentor or Performance Coach.
Ability to establish trusted relationships with Chair, Division Chiefs, Section Chiefs and faculty.
Experience in interacting in a variety of formats (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, and online).
Outstanding emotional intelligence, communication skills, empathetic nature Entrepreneurial, self-starter, ability to work autonomously.
Strategic and visionary thinker.
Adept at working both independently and within teams.
Mature, poised, intelligent; demonstrated ability to interact with surgeons as an equal.
Demonstrated understanding of surgery and health care specific stress points.
Team player, builder Competence in tracking several projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to build positive relationships with surgeons, trainees and staff.
Preferred:
Advanced training or Continuing Education credits in multiple specializations such as Anxiety, Fear, Anger, Rewiring the Brain, Trauma, Burnout, Depression.
Mindfulness retreat attendance, ideally 1-2 annually.
Advanced degree in related field.
