Under the general supervision of the Maxillofacial Clinic Director, the Maxillofacial Clinic Supervisor performs supervisory duties and dental assisting in the patient care area of the clinic and manages the workflow for the clinic. Duties include supervision of registered dental assistants, staff training, and coordination of patient and resident/hygienist/faculty operatory assignments. The Maxillofacial Clinic Supervisor ensures that the clinic is stocked with necessary materials to provide patient care, ensures that all machinery is running and performs service requests as necessary for all areas of the patient care clinic and laboratory, processes orders for all of the clinic’s dental materials and supplies for patient care, keeps inventory of materials and their expiration dates, performs water shocking treatment and autoclave testing, and sends samples for testing.
Salary Range: $34.96 – $71.65/Hourly
Required:
- Current Registered Dental Assistant and X-Ray license as determined by the California Board of Dental Examiner and CPR certificate.
- Ability to work independently and following through on tasks and project assignments.
- Readily accepts work assignments and changes within clinic in a positive manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty members, residents, staff and patients.
- Working knowledge of current dental terminology, materials, equipment, and procedures related to dentistry and working knowledge of four-handed dentistry.
- Ability to organize and maintain an inventory of dental instruments, equipment and supplies in the clinic and dental operatory.
- Ability to control issuing supplies and equipment so as to minimize loss and maximize utilization and knowledge.
- Organizational skills to set priorities to reflect relative importance of job responsibilities and demonstrated skills in supervision to organize and delegate work flow, train and evaluate subordinates and institute new/or modify old policies and procedures as needed to accomplish clinic goals effectively.
- Ability to conduct performance evaluations and communication strengths and weaknesses to staff to improve job performance.
- Excellent oral communication skills necessary to convey, present and obtain information clearly about a patient’s condition and/or policies and procedures and skill in understanding both written and oral instructions.
- Ability to work with special needs patients on dental chair, wheelchair, and/or gurney.
- Working knowledge of principles of asepsis, sterilization procedures and infection control and ability to work with infectious disease patients.
- Knowledge of Osseo Integrated Implant system.
- Physical ability to push, pull carts, handle surgical equipment carefully and safely, and stand for long periods of time.
- Working knowledge of computerized appointment scheduling system, insurance payors, basic math skills, processing and/or other related office functions.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures regarding patient care.
- Knowledge of current research literature for interpretation and application to implant and radiation patient’s dental hygiene care.
- Demonstrated knowledge of what constitutes confidential information and skill in maintaining confidentiality (HIPAA) with regard to sensitive patient, faculty, and staff information.
- Skill in developing, evaluating and updating patient education materials/instructions supplies in clinic.
