The Lab Assistant 1 will provide essential support for research studies on multiple sclerosis and menopause‑related cognitive decline conducted in the Voskuhl Laboratory. Under close supervision from senior lab personnel, the employee will assist with routine laboratory tasks such as maintaining supplies, preparing basic reagents, organizing samples, washing and sterilizing glassware, and autoclaving materials. The position will also support animal‑related research by helping with general husbandry tasks, preparing materials for procedures, assisting with labeling and record‑keeping, and supporting senior staff in collecting and organizing data. This foundational support ensures smooth day‑to‑day lab operations and enables scientists to perform complex experimental procedures related to neurodegeneration and cognitive research.

Hourly salary range: $25.75 – $30.17.
Required:
· Demonstrated ability to work with and check breeding of small rodents (mice and rats)
· Demonstrated ability to perform molecular analysis (PCR) on rodent cells
· Ability to breed and screen knock out mice for gene rearrangements
· Ability to score and care for mice with EAE
Preferred
· Psychobiology Major with junior standing
· Ability to carry out survival surgeries, including castration and ovariectomy.
· Ability to collect tissues from adult mice and harvesting CNS tissues.
· Ability to understand and record mouse behavior.
· Ability to tabulate results accurately and present them verbally in a comprehensive presentation to the supervisor
