The Family Services Specialist provides direct support services to families, including conducting home visits to assess needs and assist families in setting and achieving goals. They offer resources, referrals, and connections to community services while maintaining strong relationships with community organizations and raising program awareness. The role includes recruiting and enrolling families into the Head Start program and supporting ERSEA, Health, Family, and Disability services in alignment with Early Head Start and Head Start requirements. Additionally, they contribute to policy development, coordinate activities to support children’s development, draft educational materials, organize events, and manage program databases. These tasks are accomplished through collaboration with the Family and Community Engagement Manager/Disability Manager, outreach efforts, and comprehensive program involvement.
This is a full-time contract position that may convert to career.
Salary Range: $30.56 – $60.82 Hourly
Required:
- Minimum 24 units in Child Development or Early Childhood Education, or CDA in home visiting, or equivalent coursework as part of an associate’s/bachelor’s degree.
- CPR, Basic First Aid Certificate, or BLS complete within 6 months of hire.
- Required to hold valid California driver’s license and available transportation.
- Must meet state health requirements that include passing a physical examination as condition of employment, providing verification of COVID-19 vaccine, TB Clearance, and up-to-date with immunization
- Fingerprint screening, Criminal Record, Sex Offender Registry, and Child Abuse Index Clearance.
- Per funding agency requirements, all Early Head Start staff must complete background checks at least every five years that includes, sex offender registry check, State or FBI criminal history check, including fingerprint check, child abuse. and neglect state registry check if available in the state of California.
- Knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start philosophy, goals, principles, objectives, requirements; cornerstones of Child Development, Early Head Start policies and procedures, interviewing techniques, family dynamics, principles of adult learning, and advocacy/intervention concepts; crisis management and referral process; infant/toddler development stages and nurturing concepts; prenatal health and development; and community resources and referral processes.
- Skills in using computer-pc, Microsoft word, excel, and must type at least 30 words per minute.
- Ability to conduct on-site staff training if needed.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health, or early childhood education, human development, psychology, social work, or related field
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Units in child development or health-related field.
- Knowledge of program philosophy, goals, principles, objectives and requirements; Early Head Start policies and procedures; understanding of child development principles with an emphasis on infant/toddler developmental stages and nurturing concepts; prenatal development and appropriate health care during pregnancy; family dynamics, cultural beliefs; advocacy and intervention concepts; crisis management, community resources and referral; processes and functions of social service agencies.
