The Department of Radiation Oncology at UCLA is seeking a medical dosimetrist to join our team of dedicated medical physicists and dosimetrists. Our department employs state-of-the-art radiation therapy techniques and technologies to deliver exceptional patient care. We utilize advanced treatment machines, including TrueBeam, TrueBeam STx, Novalis Tx, Varian Ethos, and ViewRay MRIdian, and maintain an active interstitial HDR brachytherapy program.
Treatment planning is performed using a variety of systems and software. As part of the Medical Physics Division, dosimetrists are responsible for treatment planning for SBRT, IMRT, 3D conformal, total body irradiation, and HDR brachytherapy. They work closely with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and radiation therapists to support treatment simulation, ensure quality control, and contribute to departmental quality initiatives and process improvement efforts.
Our ideal candidate will be proficient in IMRT, SBRT and 3D conformal radiotherapy planning.
Will hire at Dosimetrist or Senior Dosimetrist level based on experience and certifications/eligibility
Salary for Senior Dosimetrist: $77.07 – $101.68 hourly
Salary for Dosimetrist: $73.70 – $88.10 hourly
Required:
• Certification by the American Board of Medical Dosimetry or eligibility to sit for exam required for Dosimetrist
• Bachelors degree or higher
• 3 years of full-time dosimetry experience
• Knowledgeable in the operation of radiotherapy equipment, including linear accelerators, cobalt teletherapy units, simulators, dosimetric equipment, brachytherapy equipment, computerized treatment planning systems, and record and verification/patient information management systems.
• Proficient in external beam and brachytherapy treatment planning.
• Ability to perform and analyze in-vivo and in-phantom measurements.
• Knowledgeable of current radiotherapy treatment techniques.
• Ability to assess and plot radiation dose distributions.
• Skill in providing treatment planning and dose-calculation services for patient treatment and diagnosis with external, interstitial, intracavitary, and distributed internal sources.
• Knowledge of the principles of radiation safety and Health Physics.
• Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics.
• Experience in the reading of x-ray films to determine anatomical sites.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and problem-solving in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care within the context of radiotherapy.
• Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, to exercise diplomacy in dealing with others, to secure cooperation from colleagues, and to communicate effectively with patients and medical staff.
• Ability to appropriately interact with and provide special assistance to various age groups of patients, i.e., pediatric and geriatric patients.
• Ability to work variable shifts, including evenings and weekends.
