Join an elite team at the forefront of pre-hospital stroke care as a Mobile Stroke Unit (MSU) Registered Nurse with UCLA Health. In this dynamic and highly autonomous role, you will respond directly to 911 calls across the Los Angeles area — including Westwood, the San Fernando Valley, and surrounding communities — assessing and treating stroke patients in the field before they even arrive at the hospital.
As part of the MSU team, you will collaborate closely with paramedics, CT technologists, and a remote vascular neurologist via telehealth to deliver rapid, advanced stroke care right at the patient’s doorstep.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to emergency 911 calls for suspected stroke patients
- Perform field assessments, initiate treatment protocols, and assist in rapid triage and transport decisions
- Operate with a high level of autonomy while collaborating with the interdisciplinary mobile team
- Communicate in real-time with an MD via telehealth to coordinate care
- Support CT imaging processes performed on board the unit
- Participate in ongoing training and simulation, including initial onboarding in Long Beach and Torrance
- Collaborating with an interdisciplinary mobile team to deliver high-quality stroke care in the field
- Assisting in the execution and maintenance of MSU research protocols, including quality data collection and patient follow-up
- Participating in continuous training and maintaining a strong knowledge base in stroke treatment advancements
- Current California RN license and strong clinical nursing skills required
- BSN or MSN required
- BCLS and ACLS from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association required
- 6+ months of RN experience working with Neurology/Neurosurgery/Stroke patient populations including IV thrombolysis required
- SCRN certification (preferred)
- Research coordination or clinical trial experience (preferred)
- Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly neurology (preferred)
- Ability to perform thorough patient assessments and implement appropriate interventions
- Strong critical thinking, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Experience working independently in dynamic and rapidly changing environments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and maintain professional relationships with trial staff, coordinating centers, sponsors, and the community
