The Department of Medical and Molecular Pharmacology is looking for a motivated Staff Research Associate I to will perform a variety of procedures related to research in molecular, radio- and immuno-biology in the laboratory. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the mouse colony: animal research support: checking animals/record keeping, weaning and genotyping. As a component of lab management, you will ordering and stocking lab supplies, organize the lab and conduct various tasks involving safety, training, and managing undergraduates. You will provide metabolism research support, as well as supporting isotope infusion experiments and or organizing isotope tracers and performing metabolite extractions for mass spectrometry. You will coordinate research under the close supervision of the Principal Investigator, but will work independently to complete these tasks in the lab
Target hourly rate: $26.52 – $31.63
Required:
- Knowledge of basic biology and animal physiology;
- Interest in studying metabolism or metabolic diseases;
- Ability to use basic laboratory equipment, including centrifuge, pH meter, PCR, etc; Ability to create and maintain records accurately.
- Organized, accurate, and detail-oriented schedules and records, performed in a timely manner:
- Experience in mouse colony maintenance and mouse breeding;
- Ability to learn how to carefully handle mice according to ARC guidelines;
- Ability to learn how to perform mouse catheter implantation surgeries; Familiarity with handling mice:
- Familiarity with techniques including SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, and ELISA:
- Ability to ensure compliance with all University, State, and Federal laboratory safety, biosafety, and radiation safety protocols, rules, and guidelines;
- Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows and students.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated ability to calculate concentrations of solutions as necessary;
- Previous experience in a research setting environment; BS in Biochemistry, Physiologycal Sciences, Pharmacology, or related field.
