Job Duties

Responsibilities

Responsible for all activities related to the setup, implementation, compliance and oversight of HIV clinical trials in the Center for Clinical AIDS Research and Education (CARE Center) including but not limited to the UCLA AIDS Prevention and Treatment Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) including AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), the AIDS Malignancy Consortium (AMC) and ANCHOR studies and a wide variety of other clinical studies that are run through the CARE Clinic. Incumbent oversees tall administrative management of research studies, including oversight of all regulatory functions including IRB submissions, Pharmacy and Radiology set up, AE reporting, etc. Serve as liaison between sponsors and the CARE Center. Responsible for assigning studies to study coordinators and assistant coordinator, making sure that the appropriate action is taken. Responsible for overall start-up and closure processes of all of the clinical research studies. Serve as a study coordinator responsible for protocol implementation and conduct as well. In addition oversee work of the other study coordinators with respect to patient registration, randomization, compliance, patient recruitment, enrollment, data management, quality assurance and education as related to the protocol. Assist in report preparation for IRB, CTRC and other regulatory agencies and/or committees. Direct the quality assurance program. Act as liaison with study monitors regarding protocol management and resolution of study queries. Work with the Outreach team to assure coordination of activities related to recruitment and retention of study subjects. Supervise and evaluate study coordinators, study coordinator assistants, lab tech, phlebotomists, data managers, and outreach staff. Oversee the CTU’s annual NIH format noncompetitive renewal. Prepare all business, budget, and internal UCLA paperwork pages for the report. Assist the CTU coordinator with development of reports, grants, progress reports and correspondence related to CTU and its network CRS’s. Write documents for both internal and external processes.

Qualifications

Bachelors or Masters in Social Science or Health preferred. Demonstrated ability to audit and analyze complex research data for completeness and accuracy. Ability to supervise the maintenance of records and follow-up on protocol patients. Ability to work efficiently and complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to work and solve problems with minimal supervision. Ability to prioritize effectively. Ability to work flexible hours to complete tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to concentrate and focus on tasks in a work environment that contains distracting stimuli. Ability to be flexible in handling work delegated by more than one individual. Strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively and diplomatically interact with others. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Typing and computer skill/ability including word-processing, use of spreadsheet, e-mail and data entry. Ability to supervise clinician assistant as associated with specific protocol management and implementation. Working knowledge and previous experience with clinical trials, data management and case report forms. Knowledge of medical terminology and lab procedures. Familiarity with AIDS symptoms and HIV medications. Knowledge and experience of working with regulatory agencies, i.e., IRB, CTRC and other regulatory groups and central data management and randomization of subjects. Working knowledge and understanding of ACTG policies, procedures and CRF completion. Previous supervisory experience. Verbally bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
