Job Duties

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of General Services and direct supervision from the Administrative Director of Environmental Services and Sustainability, develops and leads a comprehensive sustainability program, manages and oversees the Contracted management agreements and operations of the Health System Sustainability and all Waste Streams Management programs under the UCLA Health management purview. This includes general environmental, sustainable product procurement, waste elimination, toxicity reduction, energy and water consumption reduction for UCLA Health. Responsible to maintain efficient operations that adhere to the UC and UCLAHS policies and procedures aligning with regulatory requirements from Joint Commission, DPH, OSHA, EPA, DPT, SS Title 22, 24 and others applicable to the Sustainability program. Responsible for tracking and benchmarking all sustainability programs, coordination of sustainability programs between departments and represents the organization’s environmental initiatives with both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, will coordinate services with the UCLA Campus Sustainability Office and the Sustainability Director in the Office of the President. Operates department effectively and meets organizational strategic, operational, budgetary and financial goals and objectives. Develops and sustains metric reports related to Sustainability and Waste Management compliance and active daily management.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in environmental studies or related field. Directly related experience can substitute for the master’s degree with a related bachelor’s degree. 4 – 6 years of progressively more responsible work experience in environmental health with government, academic, private industry or consulting.
3 or more years directly managing projects, budgets, staff and professional services. Understanding of the Supply Chain procurement process is preferred

Exceptionally motivated individual with superior organizational, program management, and presentation skills.

Deep understanding of environmental issues and ability to translate those issues to realistic initiatives within a healthcare environment. Experience applying the concepts and components of sustainable environments, green buildings, and promoting healthy and safe workplaces for employees and patients as they relate to healthcare.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience and at all levels of the organization as well as with a multi-disciplinary audience. Must be able to effectively promote teamwork and efficient workflow among a complex Health System.

Analytical skills necessary to evaluate data and proposals, develop project ideas and conduct feasibility studies effectively.

Ability to pay close attention to detail while simultaneously responding to urgent requests.

Excellent verbal, written and problem solving skills.

Ability to take initiative, work independently and follow solutions through to completion.

Clear understanding of healthcare suppliers, service vendors and consultants that can support our environmental sustainability plan

Administrative and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and balance competing work priorities, to work to deadlines, and to produce complete, finished projects/products.

Demonstrated ability to successfully complete projects within a complex institutional environment with multiple objectives and stakeholders.

Expert knowledge base and experience in Excel, Word, project management database programs. Familiarity with Powerpoint and Peoplesoft preferred.
