Under the direction of the UCLA Center for Behavioral and Addiction Medicine (CBAM) Medical Director and study Investigators, the Physician Assistant will perform clinical and administrative duties and implement protocols related to research studies, including clinical trials of anti-addiction medications and HIV prevention interventions, and clinical services. Clinical duties will include, but are not limited to: completing informed consents, obtaining comprehensive medical and psychiatric histories, performing physical exams, interpretation of lab tests and EKGs in collaboration with study physicians, ordering and dispensing of medication, monitoring and assessment of adherence and adverse events, delivering brief manual-guided medication adherence/motivational counseling, providing patients with test results and referrals. The Physician Assistant may also share after-hours and weekend telephone call duties on a rotating basis with study physicians. Administrative duties will include maintaining medication accountability records, preparation and management of study-related regulatory paperwork (IRB, etc.) and management of clinical quality assurance procedures. This position may work across multiple studies at multiple sites throughout Los Angeles County, including in a mobile clinic

Required:
Active license to practice as a Physician Assistant in California
Experience in clinical research or clinical trials
Skill in venipuncture
Ability to operate/navigate computer systems used in the maintenance of clinical and research data
Ability to question patients about sensitive behavioral issues, including drug use, sexual behavior, and other high-risk factors
Skill in writing patient notes, progress reports, correspondence, consent forms and other patient materials and in editing written material for grammatical correctness
Ability to create and document protocols and procedures
Strong organizational skills to create patient treatment plans, maintain data collection procedures and conduct complex research activities
Skill in speaking and writing to persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds
Ability to work independently and report to supervisor and Investigators on a regular basis and in a timely manner
Knowledge of infection control procedures and bio-safety requirements
Ability to assess patients’ needs for information and emotional support and to meet, either directly or by referral, any needs identified
Ability to share after-hours and weekend telephone call duties on a rotating basis with study physicians
Preferred:
Bilingual in Spanish
Possess an X-Waiver to prescribe Buprenorphine to treat persons who use opioids
