Web & Mobile Developer/Design Specialist

Job Duties

This is a web and mobile developer/design position that supports the IT services group at UCLA Health. Working under the direction of the Director of Health IT Adoption and Engagement, the Web & Mobile Developer/Design Specialist is responsible for providing administration, ongoing usability assessments, designing, building, testing, maintaining, upgrading, adding new functionality and providing user support for existing and new web and mobile applications which relate to clinical informatics and IT services at UCLA Health. The developer will work closely with and gather business requirements and design specifications from content experts including but not limited to the IT Communications manager, Physician and Nursing Informatics professionals, UCLA marketing, IT service groups and key hospital leaders and clinicians. The developer will provide strategic analysis on alignment and usability of existing IT websites and use a human centered design approach to develop static and dynamic web pages and a mobile design experience that will to be used across the system.

Web & Mobile Designer Duties:
Develops and maintains a MITS/CareConnect web site, using both static and dynamic multimedia presentations including navigation and version control
Collaborates with a variety of subject matter experts to define the user experience strategy and develop usable, useful and compelling website experiences
Creates website layout/ user interface from provided content by using standard HTML/CSS practices and content management system with attention to user experience, accessibility, information architecture and user centered design principles
Build navigational structures, information maps, and working prototypes to fulfill functional and user requirements for web-based applications
Provide ongoing usability assessment of existing MITS/CareConnect web site and volume assessment of site traffic
Produces graphics, designs and maintains graphical features for the UCLA Healthsystem websites and mobile apps
Recognizes and evaluates problems, makes changes and corrections as they occur, offers appropriate solutions, and refers to the appropriate channel for action
Develop robust and user-friendly .NET based web applications ensuring security of information on protected pages where applicable
Follows established code and brand use guidelines
Design and develop new mobile website and participate in mobile application development as needed
SQL Server T-SQL development
Application/Framework design as needed
Specifications/Requirements gathering as needed
Maintains a high degree of knowledge on current technologies and tools
Identifies and evaluates relevant new technologies and keeps abreast of industry trends contributing strategic input on web and mobile experience platforms at UCLA
Demonstrates strong communication skills to varying customer types
Recommends, coordinates and communicated functional page descriptions and navigational direction to ensure that design achieves communication objectives


Job Qualifications

5+ years of website development and maintenance with proficient use of tools such as: HTML, Java, CSS, ASP.Net,
JavaScript, SQL, T-SQL, AJAX, C#, 3rd party API's, illustration tools and content management systems is required
2+ years of experience in smartphone app development is preferred
Proven knowledge and experience with relational database and RDMS such as SQL server
Strong knowledge and experience working and developing with web and mobile content management systems such as SharePoint, Drupal, Wordpress, SiteMaker, ColdFusion and Mobilesmith
Proven .NET experience as well as a solid understanding and experience with object oriented programming environments such as JAVA, Objective-C, MVC, and/or Eclipse
Expert knowledge and experience in designing and developing websites with HTML and CSS that adhere to current W3C standards with ability to adapt to and learn best practices for new standards as they evolve
Expert knowledge of web development software such as Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator and related tools
Proven knowledge and experience with web graphic design, web user interface design, web programming, multimedia content development, and with understanding browser capabilities
Solid understanding of web application development and maintenance processes, from the layout/user interface to relational database structures to content version control and searchability
Expert knowledge and ability to develop, manage and maintain static and dynamic web pages and sites for cross platform and browser compatibility including but not limited to IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Windows, and Mac
Working knowledge and experience with mobile design and development including responsive design and mobile first
Knowledge of user experience (UX), accessibility, information architecture (IA), design principles, form design and grid layouts
Broad understanding of technical issues including server and operating system environments as they related to web site operation
Ability to identify and evaluate relevant new technologies and keep abreast of industry trends. Willingness to explore and learn new software tools and new versions of existing tools including content management systems
Ability to understand the aspect of complex, multi-level projects from initial definition through completion, including planning; establishing goals; milestones; scheduling; tracking and evaluating
Demonstrated proficiency with information systems technology including Microsoft Office Suite, email, intranet, internet and other systems
Effective leadership skills and strong customer service orientation
Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain a spirit of cooperation and respect, flourish in an unstructured environment, and always engage in professional and ethical conduct
Ability to remain calm in difficult and stressful situations
Must recognize and evaluate problems, make changes and corrections as they occur and offer appropriate solutions and refer to the appropriate channels for action
Ability to probe for information about the underlying needs of the organization and interpret the needs based on nature of project, budget and objectives
Ability to recommend, coordinate and communicate functional page descriptions and navigational direction to ensure that designs achieve communications objectives
Ability to manage multiple and competing tasks, timelines and communications, prioritize assignments, and work in a complex environment
Strong communication, presentation and follow up skills when communicating technical and non-technical information to persons of varying backgrounds, technical expertise and level of authority
Willingness to work collaboratively as a team player and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
Prior experience with IT systems and systems development projects
Prior experience in healthcare setting preferred
Prior technical experience with video and still image editing, uploading and management preferred
